“Silk Road” evokes images of camels and caravans, from China through the magic carpets of Baghdad and onto the lands of Marco Polo. The countries of Central Asia flourished as the caravans traversed the region. On this tour, we will delve deep into discovering the many stories of Silk Road trade in Uzbekistan. Among the turquoise Madrassas and mosques that stand amidst Soviet structures, we will meet silk weavers and ceramic artisans, breaking bread with families as they share their treasured recipes. This tour is an oasis for history lovers, offering a journey from Tashkent to the fortress town of Khiva. We’ll traverse the Kyzylkum desert to reach Bukhara, one of the oldest cities in Central Asia, then on to Samarkand, renowned for its dramatic architectural marvels. Finally, we’ll explore the lush, fertile valley of Fergana, the birthplace of the founder of the Mughal Empire, Babur, which shares borders with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
